WOODSTOCK ENVIRONMENTAL COMMISSION (WEC) Established by Local Law No. 2 of the year 1978, the Woodstock Environmental Commission consists of seven members appointed by the Woodstock Town Board for staggered terms of
two years. The Woodstock Town Board appoints the Chairperson and Vice Chairperson of the Commission. The Woodstock Environmental Commission is the successor to the Woodstock Commission for Conservation which was
established by Local Law No. 1 of the year 1972. The Woodstock Environmental Commission's duties include defining and identifying those areas of the environment
that require protection and advising the Town Board when action is needed. The establishment of the Commission was deemed necessary to foster unified action on environmental concerns. The Commission has over the
years expanded its interests to include environmental issues which affect the entire Catskill Park. The Commission's goal is to preserve and improve the quality of the natural and man-made environment of the Town on
behalf of its present and future inhabitants. The Woodstock Environmental Commission was instrumental in adopting Local Law No. 1 of the year 1990, the Town of Woodstock Environmental Quality Review Law
(TWEQR). This important legislation enables the Town to take a closer look at projects that the New York State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA) would permit without review. The Woodstock Environmental
Commission also authored and was involved with the adoption of Local Law No. 2 of the year 1991, the Town of Woodstock Aerial Spraying Law. This law protects Woodstock from unregulated aerial spraying of
pesticides. The Woodstock Environmental Commission welcomes input on environmental matters.
